International Film Editors Forum
Launched in 2018 as an extension of the international programme at Edimotion, the International Film Editors Forum (IFEF) is a networking event aimed at editors who are actively involved in advancing their profession and its working conditions in their respective countries of origin. The forum offers participants the opportunity to exchange their experiences, and together develop solutions that deal with the challenges facing the profession all over the world. Elements of the workshop formats „World Café“ and „Open Space“ are used.
As fulfilling it would be to experience this as an in-person event in Cologne – the still raging Corona pandemic forces us like last year to hold the IFEF as a four-hour online event, on the Thursday before the festival starts.
This also has its upside: While 40 editors from 20 countries travelled to Cologne in 2019 for the second IFEF edition, 60 editors from 29 countries took part in the virtual version of the IFEF in 2020. Brazil, the Czech Republic, Greece, Israel, Portugal, Slovakia, South Africa, and Venezuela were represented for the first time – and benefited from the opportunity to exchange ideas with their colleagues from other countries without the need for long and expensive journeys.
And while a few of the 2020 participants were sceptical beforehand about whether a four-hour networking event via Zoom was not too long… afterwards most were of the opinion that it should have lasted even longer!
This year, the IFEF will be moderated by Sabine Brose. Participation is only possible with prior registration and is limited to two to three people per country, so as to enable as many countries as possible to participate. Participation is free of charge. Please send applications to curator Dietmar Kraus at kraus@edimotion.de by the 10th of October.
We are pleased that the international umbrella organisation TEMPO, founded in 2019 during our festival, is once again a cooperation partner of the IFEF.
